Due to my passion for crafting leather goods and curiosity about shoemaking, I opted for the "Intro to Shoemaking" course upon joining RISD. My prior experience crafting leather bags and accessories gave me a foundational understanding of leather, allowing me to explore my ideas more freely in the shoemaking class.
In this project, I aimed to test the effect of contrasting leather colors and experimented with combining scraps of different colored leather to create these purely handmade shoes.
Making process
Digial and Physical Pattern
To test the appearance of different pieces on the shoes efficiently, I digitized the pattern and created line drawings to simulate the parts. This allowed me to preview the effects of these parts and the proportions that needed adjustment.
First iterationFinal Version
Test and Refine
The first version of the shoes used low-saturation leather and was made with a sewing machine. During the production process, I identified points for improvement.
In the final version, I switched to entirely handmade stitching and corrected the unsatisfactory aspects from the previous version.
